Mukesh Ambani owned RIL’s empress Nita Ambani, is famously described as “Reliance’s real program manager” by her husband. It will not be surprising to soon hear EIH’s chairman P R S Oberoi, use the same words to describe Nita Ambani’s role with regards toOberoi and Trident group of hotels, after nominating her on the board.
Though the Ambani’s and Oberoi’s are downplaying Nita Ambani’s inclusion in the EIH board to be of a non-executive nature, time will reveal that it goes much beyond what the designation suggests. Nita Ambani considers her first formal corporate role as an honor, but softens it by adding that RIL was a long-term financial investor and was not seeking to run the company. However, analysts believe that RIL is now prepared to play a larger role in the hospitality business, and Nita Ambani will certainly not play an ornamental role even if the designation suggests so.
Post the formal nomination as a board member, Nita Ambani said,” Right now, I am in a learning mode with Mr. Oberoi”. The comment was roughly the same as the one she made three years ago, about her husband’s foray into cricket. She was not completely in agreement with Mukesh Ambani when he bought Mumbai Indians, but adapted the ‘learning mode’ after disastrous matches at IPL 2 in South Africa.
She flew down to South Africa and took charge of the team. Since then, she is always present for all team meetings and auctions. Nita Ambani is the lady luck for Mumbai Indians, and the team’s performance has visibly risen since she took the leadership. Mumbai Indians triumphantly won the CLT20 this year. Her ‘amazing leadership qualities’ and ability to ‘bond with the boys’, are given creditfor the team’s achievements.
Nita Ambani’s dedication to work is worth praising. She juggles between multiple roles and is ascompetent as her husband. As the chairperson of Dhirubhai Ambani International School, she visits the school daily and is present there even before the school opens. She heads the Dhirubhai Ambani Foundation, a non-profit organization which promotes education and health care services. She is equally devoted to Project Drishti, which provides free treatment to the blind. Her future agenda needs her to be the spearhead of 400-plus bed multi-specialty hospital and Reliance University, an ambitious project to set up a world-class university.
After playing diverse public roles, Nita Ambani, the wife of India’s richest businessman, loves to play the role of a middle-class lady at heart. She adores being a home-maker and a very supportive mother. She keeps track of weekly spending and enjoys shopping for crockery, like every other woman.

Nita Ambani is more famously known as the wife of Indian business tycoon Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). A devoted homemaker, mother of three, supportive wife, ardent philanthropist and educationist are her other known identities. But one of the more striking aspects that make Nita Ambani the much loved person of the society that she is are her earthly and humble personality traits.

For this first lady of corporate India, family is what takes the top priority. A firm believer in the institution, Nita has always supported and sided with her family in all matters of life. She ardently shores up to motivate her family members if ever they are in doubt, take for instance her younger sister Mamtha Dalal. More often than not a reserved person, Mamtha chooses to lay low in the society circuit. But her much loved identity stems largely from the fact that she is an educationist and a devoted teacher at the family run Dhirubhai Ambani International School (DAIS). A favorite at the institution, Mamtha has mentored many young minds just like her sister Nita Ambani. More recently when Mamtha was requested by a charity organization to walk the ramp for an event dedicated to aid cancer patients, the restrained one chose to decline the offer rather politely. But Nita Ambani stepped up to convince her sister to do the needful for such a benevolent cause and even agreed to be present at the function in her support. True to her motivational self, Nita readily convinced her sister to support the cause and take part in the same.

Nita Ambani’s personality reflects much compassion and understanding of situation, and from this very quality stems her courage to lead and guide others. Forever a family lady, keeping united an extensive family takes a lot of strength and inspiration and Nita Ambani quite easily exudes the same; a true testament to the Indian woman characteristic.

Often referred to as the ‘Empress of India”, Nita Ambani grew up in the suburbs of Mumbai. Nita Ambani, daughter of a senior Birla executive, always had keen interest in Indian classical dance and wanted to pursue a career in dance. Nita Ambani has been working tirelessly in order to raise the living standards of the underprivileged and needy as part of the Dhirubhai Ambani Foundation. She has supervised the development of villages around the Reliance projects personally along with taking a keen interest in the upliftment of people in the vicinity. Nita Ambani always values any initiative or institution that sprinkles hope and brings new sparkle and smiles to the lives of those who are not as blessed. For Nita Ambani educating and empowering these children and embedding self-esteem in them, is a joy forever.

Nita Ambani is sure of her role and confident of playing it to perfection. As a heavy duty power lady, Nita Ambani is all set to assume fresh responsibilities on all levels. Nita is a definition of calmness. Wife, mother and businesswoman, are some of the many roles that India’s first corporate lady dons 365 days a year.

From a normal childhood in Santacruz to becoming a part of the country’s biggest corporate household, Nita Ambani has dealt with numerous twists and turns of life. Perhaps Vicerine is an appropriate title for her!

Nita Ambani has always been in news. Let’s face it, the media loves her. So whether she is inaugurating a function, cheering her team “The Mumbai Indians” or she is busy with monitoring the progress of Dhirubhai Ambani International School, she always makes it to the front page. Lately, Nita Ambani has been in news more for her business achievements.
So, it’s not every day that Nita Ambani chooses to speak about her three lovely children — daughter Isha and sons Akash and Anant.
She reveals that they plunged headlong into charitable activities like their illustrious dad, businessman Mukesh Ambani and of course, Nita herself!
“Isha is interested in imparting education to underprivileged children. This summer she led a group of students from Yale visiting India as part of an NGO initiative. Akash supports sporting activities for underprivileged children. Anant is an animal lover and runs an animal shelter for injured animals and animals in distress. We are proud that our children have this compassionate streak in them,” she says.
With a twinkle in her eye she also reveals that her three children have picked up some very specials skills along the way. Aakash has a keen interest in wildlife photography, Isha is a natural artist and Anant is a naturalist. “I have always been particular to instill Indian traditional values in our children. I believe that when they are anchored to such roots, it will resonate in their personality.”
To add more to the charity work already being performed by her, she has also decided to support a charitable art and luxury auction, The Treasure Trove co-patronised by Bijal Meswani.
Talking about the initiative and why she chose to be a part of it, she says, “I always value any initiative or institution that sprinkles hope and brings new sparkle and smiles to the lives of those who are not as blessed. The Research Society, Jai Vakeel School is one such exemplary institution, serving the differently-abled children for nearly three-quarter of a century. Educating and empowering these children and embedding self-esteem in them is a joy forever.”
The future of the great empire of Mukesh Ambani will soon fall in the hands of these three bright young minds. Only time will tell what happens then. But for the moment, Nita Ambani stands a proud mother of three compassionate and talented kids who might soon be the torchbearers of Reliance Industries.

Reliance is an array of potential leaders just waiting to emerge the cocoon they are growing consistently in. The latest in news is none other than the ever so graceful Nita Ambani.
Reliance Industries is likely to nominate Nita Ambani, the wife of RIL owner Mukesh Ambani to the board of luxury Hotel Company EIH. RIL, which bought a 14% stake in EIH — that runs the Oberoi and Trident chains — will nominate Mrs. Ambani, the wife of chairman Mukesh, because she is closely involved with the company’s increased focus on services, which account for more than 50% of India’s GDP.
The Journey of Mrs. Ambani up the business ladder has been quite gradual. She had married young (at 21), had three children, and was initially fully occupied with taking care of them and her in-laws, and supporting Mukesh. She did find time to do a teacher’s training program and pursue a course in interior design. She even briefly worked as a school teacher at Sunrise Elementary, a small private school on Mumbai’s Napean Sea Road, a job she enjoyed thoroughly.
Being a fashion designer, Nita Ambani bestowed upon herself the job of designing the interiors of their own newest home, a job she excelled at eventually, much to the glee of her entire family.
Soon enough, Mrs. Ambani was being trusted with the supervision of large and complex projects. A few years later, the refinery at Jamnagar was initiated, and Nita was to handle the execution of the township.
Her foray into public life began when she set up a school at Mumbai in 2003. Her school, ‘The Dhirubhai Ambani International School’, located near Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai has become a prominent fixture of Mumbai’s education landscape.
Hence, it is not surprising that Nita Ambani may be chosen to represent RIL on the EIH board. Mrs. Ambani is not a rookie in the game. While she is modest when she says that most of her businesses are not main stream, large amount of investments are involved in all her endeavors, which she has managed with ease.
Also, the enormity of her ventures cannot be overlooked. Nita Ambani runs a significant enterprise with myriad activities. Most things she runs directly, like the hospital and the school are not technically businesses, but they are vast and complex organizations nonetheless, employing hundreds of people which lead Nita Ambani to supervise an amount close Rs 750 Crore in revenues and over Rs 1,000 Crore in annual investment budgets.

Her managerial skills were thoroughly tested during her stewardship of Mumbai Indians, a team which participates in the Indian Premier League. Mumbai Indians did poorly in the first and second IPL tournaments but the team led by Sachin Tendulkar staged a comeback to emerge as the runner-up during the 2010 edition.
Hence, with the kind of successful campaigns that Nita Ambani has run in the past, the positive impact and emotional connect she brings to the brand ‘Reliance’, there can be no better leader than her to guide RIL through their journey on the hospitality front.

It’s incredible how many things a person can manage at the same time. From supervising the construction of a new wing at Mumbai’s Hurkisondas Nurrotumdas Hospital, run by a trust controlled by the Dhirubhai Ambani Foundation to making sure that the Mumbai Indians are in perfect shape for the Champions League; and all this while carrying a queen like grace all the time. Nita Ambani is in true sense a luminary of the business world.

Then there is the Dhirubhai Ambani International School (DAIS) as well, the project that is closest to her heart. Also, there are the affairs of the Dhirubhai Ambani Foundation, which she chairs, to go through. And, of course, the numerous family and other commitments that are part and parcel of being wife of Mukesh Ambani and the first lady of the RIL Empire.

Meeting with Neeta Ambani I hear is not the easiest of tasks. Many weeks and numerous calls later, one may be lucky enough to get a confirmation from her. So when you reach the clean, clutter-free and resplendent waiting room of her office, one cannot cease to wonder at the might of the Reliance Empire of which this may be a small yet significant part.

There are no hassles as with meeting with celebrities. No delays, No cancellations and definitely no last minute change of plans. Mrs. Ambani is a woman who respects time. Both hers and of others; and even while being in the midst of all the madness happening around her, Nita Ambani’s serenity is commendable.

“Everything at Reliance is always a bit of a whirlwind. So many things are happening all the time that you have to constantly shift focus,” she laughs, quoting the reason for all the wait and phone calls that had gone through to reach her.

Nita Ambani seems an accidental businesswoman. She got dragged into project execution almost two decades after she married Mukesh Ambani. Now she runs a not-inconsiderable enterprise with myriad activities. Most things she runs directly — the hospital and the school — are not technically businesses, unlike the Mumbai Indians franchise. But they are enormous and complex organizations nonetheless, employing hundreds of people.

They are private entities and trusts, so it is notoriously difficult to get an accurate handle on numbers. Intelligent estimates are, nevertheless, possible. It is estimated that over Rs 750 crore in revenues and over Rs 1,000 crore in annual investment budgets is being supervised by Nita Ambani which can definitely termed small.

While having the richest Indian for her husband, to being an idol in herself as well, Neeta Ambani will soon prove to be a valuable asset to even the reliance group which is headed by her husband, the mighty Mukesh Ambani. It would hence be quite interesting to witness the changes that Mrs. Ambani would bring along to reliance in case she thinks of joining in the brigade. But even for now, her efforts and accomplishments are the talk of the town and with her grace and business acumen, reliance industries limited may be well on its way to include hundreds of more ventures in the near future.

This time the educationist and social worker in her have joined hands in reaching education to underprivileged and disadvantaged kids.

Although the third season of the popular Twenty20 tournament is only 17 days away, Nita’s busy supporting the underprivileged kids of five NGOs through an initiative called ‘Education For All’. Some members of her team, the Mumbai Indians, Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan & Co. are actively participating in this initiative. Commercials were launched across national television channels on Sunday featuring Sachin, Bhajji and Zaheer, who appeared in 15-second commercials for the cause, but the real stars of this Mumbai Indians promo are the children who make an endearing appearance with Nita Ambani at the end.

Nita Ambani intends taking her cause to the masses just like American cycling legend Lance Armstrong did for cancer victims in 2004, the Mumbai Indians is selling blue silicone wristbands signed by Tendulkar and other greats from the team that say ‘Education For All’. Every band sold will mean some amount of money goes towards the NGOs Pratham, Ummeed, Akanksha, Teach For India and Nanhi Kali that do exemplary work in educating underprivileged children. The sale proceeds will be matched by a contribution from the Mumbai Indians’ kitty.

Nita Ambani is counting on the huge fan base her team has across the country to boost the sales, but since it is for a charitable cause, all benevolent Indians supporting other IPL teams are expected to pitch in and buy the bands as well. The educationist in Nita Ambani who believes that education is the key that unlocks the potential of every child says, “It’s a small and humble effort”. She, as an erstwhile school teacher and current Chairperson of the Dhirubhai Ambani International School, has thrown open her institute, which in the evenings becomes an education centre for Akanksha’s underprivileged kids. Besides which, through the Reliance rural schools in Maharashtra and Gujarat, Nita also looks after the education of 15,000 other children.

“One of India’s big needs is for every underprivileged kid, especially the girl child, to know how to read and write,” continued Nita Ambani. “This is a cause that’s very dear to me, and Sachin, Harbhajan and Zaheer were happy to endorse it in the promo.” The sale of these ‘Education For All’ bands that are available at all Reliance and Sahakari Bhandar stores in Maharashtra is just the basic fund raiser. Nita, who sits cheering in the dug-outs whenever her team is playing, will take 120 of these kids to see every home match. She later plans to hold a special benefit match for them with her players.

Indian Premier League is back and so is Nita Ambani. To be one of the most influential business women in the nation and have a passion for the game of cricket is a boon and especially for someone of the stature of Nita Ambani. She has taken Reliance’s social responsibility to the next level and engaged wholeheartedly with the game that India eats, lives and breathes.

Nita Ambani who plays the role of the co-owner of the IPL team Mumbai Indians sure knows how to balance work and play. She is the proud chairman of Dhirubhai Ambani International School and heads many other educational campaigns. Nita Ambani’s fervour for cricket seems to be ever increasing with Mumbai Indians having raked in all the top rank players from the country and looking all set to win the accolades. Nita Ambani, co-owner of the Mumbai Indians spearheaded the strategy for making the smartest bid for the most sought after cricketer Kieron Pollard in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the quest to bid for Kieron Pollard, three teams had lined up for the auction- Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers and Kolkata Knight Riders apart from Mumbai Indians. However, Nita Ambani’s bid prevailed during the auction.

In 2008, Nita Ambani led Mumbai Indians’ successful bid for 7 players including Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan and Sanath Jaisurya while during the 2009 player auction; Mumbai Indians bid South African Player Jean Paul Duminy for a whopping $950,000. This year, Nita Ambani signed up for Kieron Pollard. The bidding which began at a bare price of $200,000 soon took a boost when Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers and Kolkata Knight Riders began battling it out to win over the player. With every bid resulting in all four teams getting into a tie, the IPL chief Lalit Modi called for a tie breaker rule where in all the teams were supposed to quote a price in silent and the team quoting the highest amount would win the claims over Kieron Pollard. Luck clearly rode Nita Ambani’s way as she called out the highest bid.

The team is captained by batsman Sachin Tendulkar. With such star studded line-up, Nita Ambani is one super confident woman who has her eyes set at the upcoming season of Indian Premier League. Speaking about her new achievement for Mumbai Indians, Nita Ambani said that she feels elated at the newest acquisition of team Mumbai Indians. She added that the team’s strategy as discussed between Robin Singh, Sachin Tendulkar and TA Sekar was to have a batting all rounder in the team which they got in Kieron Pollard.

Remembering her Indian Premier League journey, Nita Ambani once said in an interview about how the passion for cricket has bowled her over. Apparently before IPL, her knowledge of cricket was very elementary and was restricted to a few big names in the cricket world. It was only after she took over the management of Mumbai Indians that she started taking an avid interest in the game. Nita Ambani is said to be the lucky mascot for the team Mumbai Indians, she accompanies the team in every match. The lady is all geared up for the upcoming IPL series with a team packed with cricket sensations from around the world.
