Hamleys- one of world’s largest toy stores- is set to storm Indian market under its tie-up with one of India’s largest retail brands- Reliance Retail.
A lucrative subsidiary of Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), Reliance Retail is a strong arm extension of this private major. Currently, it operates in 1,000 stores in more than 85 cities across the country.
Under its tie-up with the UK based toy store, Reliance Retail launched the first Hamleys toy store in Asia in the city of Mumbai in April 2010. Reliance Retail President and Chief Executive Officer Bijou Kurien reported that, “Our first store in Mumbai which is spread across 21,000 square foot has got a very good response. It was a pilot store. Now this is a large store. With this we have plan to open 18 stores in India over the next seven years.”
Hamleys as a brand is a very strong and reputable. The flagship store is considered one of London’s major tourist attractions, and receives about five million visitors a year. The USP of such a mammoth like establishment lies in its superior range of products, variety and quality.
As far as Indian toy market is considered, it is presently valued at Rs. 15,000 crore, growing annually by almost 15%. Fueled by a vast domestic market, the industry has now turned its attention to global markets and is fast gearing up to meet international demands.
In an effort to realize this expectation, Reliance Retail has joined forces with one of world’s top toy marketers as a part of expanding its footprint. The new stores in India will be launched under ‘Pilot Store-Large store’ category, spread across 11,000 to 21,000 square feet of space.
Hamleys Global CEO Gudjon Reynisson said that the company holds all ‘local partnerships’ for merchandising their toys in any country where dearly. And an opportunity to spread out alongside India’s largest retail brand is an added incentive.
While Reliance Retail will guide the process through their extensive knowledge of domestic market, cultural diversities and distribution network, Hamleys will provide the merchandises and also give creative direction to the whole course of action.

There is no doubt that toys are a normal part of childhood. It is quite true that toys play a significant role in the development of the child. How do you know what toys are the best for your baby? A new parent can spend a fortune on baby toys and chances are your baby will not play with half of them! But there’s one brand of toys that kids can never say no to, Toys “R” Us. Reliance Retail, the India largest organized retail company with Value & Special formats, is planning to bring the world’s leading Toy retailer Toys“R”Us to Indian cities.

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries retail arm Reliance Retail is near to sign a Joint Venture to unwrap Toys“R”Us’ stores in India. Reliance is still working on the nitty-gritty of the joint venture and is expected to close it in the next few months

Reliance Industries retail outlet Reliance Retail already has joint ventures with UK’s apparel retailer Marks & Spencer , Dutch optical firm Pearle Europe, US stationery chain Office Depot , Italian men’swear brand Ermenegildo Zegna Group and US-based Apple Inc, among others. Reliance Retail is expected to bring a number of international brands across consumer product segment into the country as it looks to take full advantage of the boom in consumer demand.

Reliance Retail has grown into an organization that caters to needs of millions of customers, thousands of farmers and vendors. Based on its core growth strategy of backward integration,
Reliance Retail has made rapid progress towards building an entire value chain starting from the farmers to the end consumers. Reliance Retail currently operates 15 formats such as Reliance Fresh, Reliance TimeOut, Trendz and Digital and Jewels, among others.

With Toys”R”Us Indian kids will get a huge variety of toys and they can select their favorite Ninjas, super heroes and Disney princess from a wide range of toys. Toys help in proper mental and physical growth of kids. So no parent is going to say no to Toys”R”Us.

Reliance Retail, the India largest organized retail company with Value & Special formats, with a pan India footprint, with over 1000 stores is entering the cash and carry business this year. Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries said its retail arm Reliance Retail is entering into this cash and carry business by opening at least three outlets in the next six to eight months.

Reliance retail plans to enter cash and carry segment Solo without any foreign joint ventures. The company has already identified locations and work was on for the construction of the outlets with an area spread over 1.5 lakh square feet each. This is, however, a scaling-down of the company’s initial plan to open its stores at 15 locations, mostly Tier-II centres such as Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Rajkot and Salem.
Reliance’s entry into the cash and carry business assumes significant at this point, as the market is abuzz with reports of global retailers such as Wal-Mart, Tesco, Metro and Carrefour expanding their presence in India amid anticipation that the government is likely to ease FDI norms in both the wholesale and retail formats.
“The company is back with a bang. It is soon going to announce its revived cash-and-carry business plans and will open three outlets over the next six to eight months,” the source said without divulging details.
Since its inception in 2006, Reliance Retail has grown into an organization that caters to millions of customers, thousands of farmers and vendors. Based on its core growth strategy of backward integration, Reliance Retail has made rapid progress towards building an entire value chain starting from the farmers to the end consumers. Reliance Retail currently operates 15 formats such as Reliance Fresh, Reliance TimeOut, Trendz and Digital and Jewels, among others.
Cash-and-carry would be the sixteenth format that would sell goods to those with a sale tax certificate such as modern retailers, fruits and vegetables re-sellers, restaurants and hotels and small mom and pop and kirana stores.

“We are looking to open 10-15 stores in the next two years mainly in the metros. We’re aiming to open larger stores which will showcase a fuller range of our product catalogue,” said Marks and Spencer Reliance India, Head of Marketing, Nandini Sethuraman.

In order to display the wide range of product catalogue properly, the company desires to open spacious stores approximately 10-15.

Reliance Retail, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, plans to invest Rs 2,000 crore to add 3 million sqft retail spaces in 2010-11, a top company official said on Monday, 28th June.

Reliance Retail recorded sales of Rs 4,500 crore in the financial year ended March 2010. It operates nearly 1,150 stores in 86 cities across 14 states which span just over 4.5 million sqft space across India. In 2009-10, the company added around 1 million sq ft retail space.

The company has also focused greatly on its plan of luxury brands to India with Reliance Brands. The last two months have seen the launch of Hamleys and Diesel stores. Reliance Retail is now in talks with US fashion brand Kenneth Cole and Italian bag maker Mandarina Duck to open their exclusive outlets in India.

“We will add around 30 hypermarkets and 250 speciality stores this financial year. Around 1.5 million sqft will be added in hypermarkets while 1.5 million sqft will be in speciality stores and Reliance Fresh”, a Reliance official said.

“The company will focus on expanding Reliance Mart hypermarkets and its specialty retail formats – Reliance Trend, Reliance Digital, Reliance Jewels, Reliance Footprint, Reliance Time-Out and Reliance Wellness.” said the official.

This follows in wake of the Reliance Industries Chairman, Mukesh Ambani’s words at the 36th AGM claiming that Reliance Retail, Reliance Industries’ (RIL) retail arm will see a 10-fold growth in revenue over the next five years to become a Rs 45,000-crore entity.
